Even though the new head of the FDA (the US drug regulator) publicly supports psychedelic medicines, actually moving these drugs to a less restricted legal category takes years of formal government steps — it requires sign-off from the Department of Health and Human Services plus a lengthy public rulemaking process. Talking favorably about psychedelics on a podcast does not skip any of those steps. Nothing changes on paper in 2026.
Scheduling requires an HHS recommendation plus rulemaking — a multi-year process. A podcast-friendly appointee doesn't shortcut Controlled Substances Act procedure.
