Scientists don't yet understand the biology of why ibogaine might help someone stop using ketamine — the one published case offers a story, not an explanation. Properly designed studies that could actually test a mechanism (like a controlled experiment with a comparison group) take months or years to fund, design, and launch. By late October 2026, any follow-up work will almost certainly still be observational — meaning researchers watching and recording what happens naturally, not running a controlled experiment.
Mechanism requires funded controlled work that isn't in place. The field will over-interpret an anecdote before the biology is understood.
